Description |
This painting was the most important Speight in private hands. It was included in serveral important exhibitions and was on the cover of NC Museum of Art's 1961 retrospective catalouge. Winter Scene was painted from West Manayunk, looking across the Schuylkill River toward Manayunk, an industrial section of Philadelphia that crosses the river. At the time, Francis Speight painted this work, he and his wife, Sarah Blakeslee, were living in an old farmhouse on Cinnaminson Lane in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. |
