In 1962, Thrifts made the following comments about his work: "As for my personal feelings toward my own work, I have always felt that I work with fragments of experience, landscape and response to landscape. In every painting, I try to take these fragments torn from life and transform them by relationship of color, texture and form into a unity. Collage, with its very sympathy for variegated shapes, superimpositions and textures, seems best suited to my purpose." |
