Notes |
One of Virginia's most noted figurative artists, Lewis works in charcoal, ink, wax, conte and pencil. The presentation of his subjects is often portrait-like and iconic, resonating on a collective level while being deeply personal in origin. Lewis imbues his mixed-media drawings with explosive feelings by creating charged spaces in whihch his objects exist. He conspires opposites- dark and light, movement and statis, recklessness and control- against each other to create expression in still-lifes. |
