While in Chicago he designed trademarks for food products and drew cartoons for advertisements. He founded a group called the Brown Country Indian group. Requiring rest in order to recover from a heart attack, Hockings moved to the low country of South Carolina. In the summertime, Hockings traveled throughout the mountains of North Carolina, painting landscapes. Hockings combined his love of hunting and fishing with his painting skills to create paintains of American outdoor scenes. |
