Description Born in North Carolina, Francis Speight was an artist categorized with Hopper, Sloan, Burchfield and Bellows, and was primarily known for his landscapes. Speight attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Upon graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy, he was promptly given an instructors position in Painting and Drawing there where he taught until 1961 when he became Artist in Residence and Professor at E.C.U. Throughout his career, Speight received numerous prestigious awards for his work. His paintings are in numerous collections including the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Pennsylania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
