Description From Newburgh, New York, Ellsworth Kelly studied at the Pratt institute in New York City from 1941 to 1942, before serving in the army as a camouflage specialist. He attended the school of Fine Arts in Boston Massachusetts from 1946 to 1948, where he developed an expressive realistic style. Kelly's drawings of plants, as in this lithograph, are precisely outlined and unmodeled, in which he presents realistic forms with the same emotional coolness that characterizes his abstract works.
