Description Born in Germany, Albers studied at the Royal Art Academy at Berlin. In 1933, Albers arrived in America and assumed the chairmanship of the Art Department at Black Mountain College in North Carolina until 1949. This serigraph is one of the prints completed as part of the investigative series, Homage to the Square, in which he systematically explored color relationships within the restricted format of a square. Albers used the theories of individual perception of colors to create this work, which shows that the subject merges science and subjectivity.
