Object Name Painting
Description Sarah Blakeslee (1912-2005) was born in Evanston, Illinois and recieved art instruction at the Art Institute of Chicago and at teh Corcoran School of Art in D.C. While in Washington, Blakeslee was encouraged by an instructor to enroll at the Country School of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where she met her future husband, Fancis Speight, who was her professor. When the couple moved to Eastern North Carolina in the 60's, Blakeslee adapted well and began painting landscapes of the surrounding area and portraits of local citizens.
