Object Name Sculpture
Description Born in New York City, Segal received a BFA degree from New York University and a MFA degree from Rutgers University. He abandoned a promising career as a painted of large-scaled, expressionistic nudes in 1960 to pursue one as a sculptor. Segal used plastic bandages, making casiting from the bodies of friends, and pieced them together, altering the exterior by adding or deleting plaster to suit his expressive and formal aims. he leaves the pieces unpainted, its ghostly presense is effectively reinforced by the contrast with literal reality.
